Info
This single-family home is located in a residential district north of Madrid, on a steep slope that descends from the access point, surrounded by lush vegetation.
The implementation strategy reconfigures the topography of the plot, respecting the existing trees and resolving both vehicular and pedestrian access to the ground floor of the home. The new stone platform on the ground floor serves as a transitional element between the natural terrain and the habitable, domestic area, and also allows for the construction of a semi-basement floor below, on the same level as the main garden.
The ground floor, where all the home’s common spaces face south, is conceived as a halfway point between the interior, the plot, and nature, using exterior stone walls and flooring that extend into the house and large sliding doors that allow the space to open up completely in the temperate months, generating an atmosphere that blends the domestic interior with the lush green exterior.
Above the platform is a simple but impactful geometric element of wooden latticework to protect from the sun that appears to float above the ground-floor base, blending with the canopy of the surrounding trees. In this night-time solution, all bedrooms open onto an uninterrupted south-facing terrace that filters solar radiation through slatted, retractable wooden louvers that unfurl lengthwise.
The project uses setbacks and overhangs, as well as certain customised solar-control elements that reduce the home’s energy consumption. The inclusion of rooftop solar panels, green rainwater cisterns, and geothermal wells complement the design’s infrastructure and ensure optimal energy dispersal.
The home’s warm interior is complemented by a careful selection of natural materials, including lime mortar surfaces, natural stone floors and walls, and wooden ceilings, windows and doors. Custom-made furniture designed by artisans using natural materials and fabrics help create a living space where comfort and quality of life prevail in a welcoming home connected to nature.
